Teeth whitening is not a universal solution. For teeth with severe tetracycline or fluoride staining, the effectiveness of current whitening treatments is limited. Generally, yellow or yellow-brown teeth respond better to whitening than gray or gray-brown (gray-blue) teeth.
Whitening has little to no effect on synthetic dental materials such as fillings, dentures, veneers, porcelain crowns, or bridges, and it cannot change the shade of these coverings. As a result, after whitening treatment, the color of your teeth may appear uneven, with existing restorations standing out.
If a tooth has undergone root canal treatment, depending on the condition, we may recommend placing the whitening agent inside the tooth (in the space where the nerve used to be) to achieve whitening from the inside out. However, the feasibility of this treatment will be determined by the attending dentist.
